Welsh Music Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Sunday 5th July: Arrival in Cardiff & Welcome Dinner

Arrive in Cardiff and settle into your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring the heart of the city — Cardiff Castle or the historic shopping arcades are ideal introductions. In the evening, we gather as a group for a welcome dinner, accompanied by the enchanting sound of the harp, Wales’s national instrument.

Day 2 – Monday 6th July: St Fagans, Culinary Tour, Cardiff Castle & Choir Rehearsal

Begin the day at St Fagans National Museum of History, where historic buildings and live demonstrations showcase Welsh life through the centuries. Around midday, we join a 3-hour culinary walking tour of Cardiff, sampling a range of Welsh specialities while learning about the capital’s vibrant food scene. In the afternoon, we visit Cardiff Castle, with its Roman foundations, medieval walls, and Victorian Gothic interiors. After an early independent dinner, we gather for a private visit to a local choir rehearsal — a rare chance to experience the beauty and power of Welsh voices in harmony.

Day 3 – Tuesday 7th July: Royal Mint, Coal Mining Experience & Special Lunch

This morning we travel to The Royal Mint Experience, where Britain’s coins are struck and the fascinating story of currency is revealed. We continue into the Rhondda Valley for the Coal Mining Experience, guided by former miners who share stories of life underground. Here, we enjoy a special group lunch with a surprise element — a memorable moment linking food, heritage, and song. Returning to Cardiff, the rest of the afternoon and evening are free to explore the city at leisure.

Day 4 – Wednesday 8th July: Lovespoon Workshop, Tenby & St Davids Cathedral Evensong

Leaving Cardiff behind, we travel west towards Pembrokeshire, with our first stop at a traditional Lovespoon Workshop, where the centuries-old art of lovespoon carving is demonstrated. We continue to the colourful seaside town of Tenby, with free time to enjoy lunch at leisure and perhaps wander its medieval streets and harbour. In the afternoon, we journey to St Davids, the smallest city in Britain, yet home to a magnificent medieval cathedral. Here we attend the moving service of Evensong, as the voices of the choir rise within the ancient stone walls. Afterwards, we gather for a hearty group dinner in a local pub.

Day 5 – Thursday 9th July: Aberystwyth, National Library & Devil’s Bridge Steam Train

We leave Pembrokeshire and travel north through the scenic heart of Wales, arriving in Aberystwyth around lunchtime. After free time to enjoy lunch in town, we visit the National Library of Wales, a treasure house of manuscripts, maps, and art. Later in the afternoon we board the nostalgic Vale of Rheidol steam railway, which carries us into the Cambrian Mountains to the village of Devil’s Bridge. Guests have free time here to explore or walk to the famous waterfalls before continuing to our accommodation in the area, where we enjoy a group dinner together.

Day 6 – Friday 10th July: Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod

After breakfast, we travel through Mid Wales to Llangollen, home to the world-renowned International Musical Eisteddfod. This extraordinary festival brings together choirs, dancers, and musicians from across the globe in a joyful celebration of culture. The day is yours to enjoy the festival at your own pace, with plenty of performances, parades, and vibrant displays to experience. A group lunch is included on the festival grounds. In the late afternoon we continue to the elegant seaside resort of Llandudno, our base for the next four nights, where we share a group dinner at the hotel.

Day 7 – Saturday 11th July: Portmeirion, Eryri & Conwy + Welsh Folk Evening

This morning we travel to the enchanting Italianate village of Portmeirion, famous for its colourful architecture and beautiful coastal setting. We continue into the dramatic landscapes of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, where rugged mountains and valleys showcase Wales at its most scenic. In the afternoon, we visit the medieval walled town of Conwy, with its mighty castle and charming quayside. Returning to Llandudno, we gather in the evening for a lively Welsh folk night, featuring traditional singers and a spirited twmpath (folk dance). Dinner is included as part of this joyful evening.

Day 8 – Sunday 12th July: Chapel Hymns & Community Tea

This morning is free to relax in Llandudno, perhaps with a stroll along the promenade or a ride on the Great Orme tramway. In the afternoon we join a service at a local chapel, where the congregation’s powerful hymn singing fills the air with harmony. Afterwards, we are warmly welcomed by the community for a tea gathering, with the chance to chat, share stories, and experience Welsh hospitality. The evening is free for independent dining.

Day 9 – Monday 13th July: Caernarfon, Llanfair PG & Anglesey + Farewell Event

Our final full day begins at Caernarfon Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive strongholds in Europe. We then cross the Menai Strait to the island of Anglesey, stopping in the village with the famously long name — Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch — before exploring more of the island’s historic sites and coastline. In the evening, we gather in Llandudno for a festive farewell dinner with a special surprise local performance, the perfect finale to our musical journey.

Day 10 – Tuesday 14th July: Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Wrexham & Farewell Lunch

This morning we leave Llandudno and travel to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the marvels of the Industrial Revolution. Spanning the River Dee on soaring stone pillars, the aqueduct offers unforgettable views of the Welsh landscape. We then continue to Wrexham, where we enjoy a special farewell lunch — a final chance to share memories of our journey together. After lunch, transfers are provided to Wrexham and Chester train stations, as well as to Liverpool and Manchester Airports. Optional paid transfers can also be arranged to Cardiff, London, or other UK destinations.
